I grabbed this book originally because I had no other book to read and I took one look at the cover and said “hmm…”
I finished in nearly one day! This novel will take you on an emotional roller-coaster. I found myself screaming at nothing in frustration, crying in horror and despair, and nearly squealing with joy! I do not remember having this strong of an emotional connection to a work in… well… ever! It was so gripping. I couldn’t stop arguing with myself over how the characters reacted to certain situations.
My synopsis:
Haven, the main character, has known all her life that this is not the only life she has lived. She knows that she has been other people in the past. The only past life she remembers though, is being a girl named Constance and loving a man named Ethan. Through her whole life in the tiny town of Snope City, Tennessee, she has been in and out of therapy with psychological professionals and ministers trying to get to the bottom of what is “possessing her.” Eventually, she promises herself to put all of what she knows is true into the “fiction” file in her brain to keep to herself. When she sees A-list celebrity Iain Morrow on t.v. one night, however, she goes into a fit arousing the fear and embarrassment in her family that this is starting all over again. She knows she must meet Iain, she knows that this is her Ethan and if she could only meet him he may be able to help her uncover what happened to Constance and why every time she remembers Constance, she remembers a painful firey end. The Oroboros Society in New York, holds many secrets that Haven is too curious to keep out of her mind as she tries to uncover the truth about Constance and Ethan. Who is telling the truth, and is Iain her Ethan?
A beautifully written, exciting love story that will seriously leave you guessing right to the very end!
The idea of reincarnation and how well it was explained was intriguing and exciting! Miller created a world that I could fall into and believe, even after turning the last page and eventually the back cover.
It was thought provoking, passionate, infuriating, but over all intelligently written and over all, beautiful. Personally, I see a new bestseller on the way!
What I loved! Passion, confusion, lies, angst, deceit, thought provoking ideas about life as we know it! There is a lot of personification about concepts that are sometimes hard to grasp.
What I hated! Angst, lies, deceit!
WTF Moments! [Spoiler Alert!]
1. Haven leaves on a hunch that this guy is the answer to figuring out her past. Okay… That may fly in the novel but in the real world honey…. Yeah, no.
2. He sees her in the crowd… then they make out in the hallway…. Uhhh… Boi, We just met! We don’t even know each other like dat! 0.0 WTF?!
3. He takes her back to his apartment and they have sex. ‘Kay… That’s actually somewhat realistic… Let’s keep in mind however, SHE’S FRICKEN 17 AND HE’S LIKE 20!!!! WTF??? Now I know that even in the real world that’s not TERRIBLE but let’s also keep in mind that they JUST met! OH yeah… they’ve known each other across time and space… Nevermind, continue!
4. What is it with the hero keeping the heroin out of the loop?! Have we not learned by now that keeping the woman out of the loop often leads to not only the heroin blaming hero of mischief he’s not up to and so makes accusations that only cause angst… but often pique’s the heroin’s interest and she often goes off to do something she thinks is helpful but only ends up being stupid. WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END?!!!!? Making women look stupid heros? Shame on you, we live in a new century! WTF??
5. The Oroboros Society is one BIG WTF?! They exchange points like currency and the point system gets these people into debt, prostitution, drug use and selling, killed, raped, you name it. I think the biggest WTF about the Oroboros society, though, is that there are gangs and other “secret societies” that do things like this.
6. Adam… 0.0 Oh… My…. God. This guy is seriously fucked up! Although he is supposed to be the live breathing personification of the concept of Satan and chaos, I still just… whoa. Not only is this guy basically Chaos in the flesh, but he is also Chaos obsessed with a human girl. Okay, this isn’t the first time man has explored this concept of concepts being personified in human forms but THIS fucker! This guy takes the cake! He has six corpses and many items of Haven’s from different lives. In drawers, he has six of her old incarnations’ remains.

What. The. Holy. Fuck?!
Awwww Moments!
1. Even though I just made fun of this moment super hard in the WTF’s, I can’t help but blush and giggle like a school girl whenever I think of how absurdly nauseatingly romantic it is that she risked a lot to go to New York (on a hunch) to find the man of her dreams and the fact that he picks her out of the crowd. HE RECOGNIZED HERRR!!! Awwwww! :3
2. Italy. The WHOLE time they are in Italy is just one huge Awww! I don’t think I stopped smiling once the whole time they were there! Until they had to leave, that is. I love the moments when he tells her about some of their pasts together (His super awesomeness gift is that he remembers if not all then most of his pasts with and without her.) I loved hearing those stories probably as much as she did! Awwwww! :3
3. The sewing room. Knowing her gift throughout her lifetimes has been her sewing prowess, he gifts her a whole sewing room to allow her to sew to her hearts’ desire. Though she takes the time he gave her to find her surprise to snoop on him and basically kills the moment, I think it makes this moment an even bigger Awwww! He truly truly loves her and he tries so hard to prove it to her and to make her happy. Awwwww!!!! :3
4. [HUGE SPOILER ALERTTT!!!] Gifting her his whole fortune in his will. He wants to assure her that she can have all she wants and that she can have the comfortable life he would have given her on the off-chance he didn’t live. But what really makes this moment an Awwww is when he comes back! I was crying by the time I read that he came back and then I had to put the book down for a moment to allow myself to settle down. I was so happy I think I honestly jumped and squealed with glee! (Didn’t I tell you I have never felt so strong an emotional tie to a book? Yeah, wasn’t kidding!)
5. The epilogue… Just one giant Awwwwww! :3
[SPOILER ALERT OVER!!]
All of the above WTF moments and AWWWW moments, are what makes me love this book so much! I love the wonderful choices she makes that in real life would have gotten you so freaking killed, I love the angst and the slight predictability with the amazing twist at the last minute!
This book is probably one of my top 25 favorite books of all time because it is so unique while still being so cliche it makes me roll my eyes just thinking about it! If you want an easy read with easy to love main characters and incredible dumbfounding twists and turns throughout the plot check this book out! [And one quick confession, while writing the Awww’s I reread the last two chapters and cried. Just cried. This book, is so… wow).
I would say this deserves a PG-13 rating and give it 5/5 stars for it’s originality and overall incredibleness! I hope whoever reads this book has the same strong emotional connection that I had to it. I’m not going to lie, it is an easy read, but it made me grin like an idiot the WHOLE time and I hope it does the same with whoever else reads this book!
